Some Pointers For Potential Car Renters In Ireland

by Bob Carter | Travel and Leisure > Switch Category
Renting a car in Ireland? Here are some pointers that you need to remember:

• You have various choices when it comes to car rental companies. Most of the international car rental companies have offices on the major cities in Ireland, like Dublin, Galway, Shannon and Cork. You should check out various car rental companies first before you decide which one to deal with.

• Look for a car rental deal that will meet all your needs and not only your budget. Even if you have limited budget, you still have to meet your driving needs. For instance, if you need a GPS, rent one. Don’t drive without the GPS if you are not very familiar with the place.

• Most of the rental cars nowadays are automatic transmission. This is due to the fact that it is easier to drive automatic transmission cars and more people choose them.

• You can’t drive with a child in Ireland if you don’t have a baby seat. Make sure that you rent a baby car seat in advance. Sometimes, car rental companies have limited number of baby car seats for rent so it is a good idea to rent one ahead of time. If you are unable to rent a baby car seat, bring one.

• Remember to bring your driver’s license. In most cases, your foreign driver’s license will be honoured. Some car rental companies ask for an international driver’s license or permit before they will allow you to rent a car. Ask the car rental agent first so that you will know if you need to get an international driving permit or not.

• Check the age limit first. Some car rental companies will not rent to people who are below 25 or over 70 years. If a car rental company lets you rent a car, expect for a surcharge. It is a good idea to check with the car rental company first if you fall on this age range.

• The rates of car rental are not fixed. One day the rates can be very low, the next day it might be high. It is a good thing to compare various car rental rates first before deciding on one.

• Never drive without insurance. In the same manner, don’t pay for insurance if you don’t need to. Sometimes you will realize that you don’t need to pay for extra insurance anymore.

Hopefully these reminders will help you when you rent a car in Ireland.
