Panoramic views Along The River Thames

by andrewmiles | Travel and Leisure > Switch Category
There aren’t many places that are more ‘quintessentially London’ than the area surrounding and including St James’s Park. It’s a favourite spot for local residents and tourists alike, proving to be popular throughout the year. Those living nearby enjoy the picturesque walk to get to the green open space, whereas tourists usually book St James’s Park taxis to take them there directly. It’s nearby other popular areas to visit such as Westminster and Victoria, with panoramic views along the River Thames.

One of the biggest attractions here is Her Majesty the Queen’s official residence, Buckingham Palace. People flock here to see the Changing of the Guard, which is a time honoured tradition for the British Monarchy. The palace itself also opens to the public at certain times for a payable fee, so you can actually see inside! Check online for dates about these two events, and book a St James’s Park taxi to take you there. If you want to beat the crowds and get a good place, it’s recommended that you arrive early. There are often ceremonies along The Mall which runs alongside the park, so you’re in for a treat if you manage to catch one of these parades; horses and guardsmen mark national days of celebration here.

St James’s Park itself is nestled amongst several other of the Royal Parks; just a short distance away (or actually connected to it) you’ll find Green Park, Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. These are well maintained all year round so you can expect beautiful surroundings every time you visit. Unsurprisingly, the parks are most popular during the summer months when the weather is warm; it gives people the opportunity to have picnics, play games, go jogging, sunbathe or to simply read a book in the open air.

After you’ve spent time at the palace or in the park, you can take a taxi in St James’s Park to any of the nearby attractions to spend the remainder of your day. Westminster Palace is not far away; it’s another iconic view of London that you’ll see on many a postcard! As with many other areas of central London, there are lots of bars, cafes and restaurants here. The choice of cuisine is very varied, so there’s something to suit everyone’s taste. Visitors may fancy a taste of traditional English food, or perhaps some Italian or Indian. Enjoy the street views as you stroll through the area, until you find the perfect place to eat and round off the day.
