When choosing for an aquarium, saltwater or freshwater, there are many factors to consider. There are many types of fish aquariums to choose from, and picking the right one can be overwhelming unless you know what you want before you go shopping. When choosing between saltwater and freshwater aquarium you need to think about how much space you are willing to dedicate to your new aquarium. Generally, saltwater aquariums take up more space then freshwater aquariums. If your space is limited freshwater would be a better route for you to pursue, because saltwater aquariums have many more pumps and filter systems that will require the extra room. One thing to keep in mind when deciding on a saltwater aquarium, they tend to be much harder to keep in balance for beginners.

When you do select your type of aquarium, be sure that it coincides with the fish you are planning to put in that aquarium. What types of your fishes and size of your fishes? Not all fish are the same size and same may grow considerably more than others making your glass aquarium unsuitable.

Getting the right aquarium size is very important to ensure proper growth of fish so that they don't get stunted from overcrowding and develop other health problems. It is very important because choosing the wrong size could mean disastrous effect in the long run. Bigger is better for any aquarium. The larger the Aquarium, the most water it will hold and the more fish it will be able to sustain and support. It will also provide more stable water conditions than a small Aquarium. While aquarium keeping is considered to be an enjoyable hobby by many, it is always best to purchase the larger aquarium you can afford when you first begin. This will help you to avoid the need to upgrade later on; after your fish have already been established.

Aquariums need a set of essential equipments in order for it to become a safe and functional miniature water environment for the fish. When you are setting up an aquarium, equipment such as filtration systems, air pumps, lighting, heating, gravel or other substrate, thermometer, and plant and rock may be required in order to maintain clean aquarium water suitable for maintaining a stress-free environment for the fish.

Watching fish swimming freely in a glass aquarium can be extremely therapeutic and have a calming effect. Introducing fish into your home can benefit all the family however you need to be aware of what your fish needs with regard to food, lighting, surroundings and size of their aquarium.
