Parenthood:New Parent

by David Burns | Parenting
When you become a parent, you bring a new life in this world that never existed before and now exists because you are there. Your responsibility becomes higher. You are expected to provide financial support, care and guidance to your child. It is not just the child but the entire world will expect you to become responsible. When you’re a new mom or dad, you want do everything right. However, the pressure to be perfect can cause you to feel anxious and upset. For the new parent, the advice and help of a more experienced parent is always invaluable.

To become a parent does not mean the end of your life. Many people think that the freedom they have in their lives will vanish with the arrival of a child. There is a lot of fun to be shared with your spouse and kid. So, do not feel dejected.

One of the primary tips for parenting is to keep your cool and not to panic. It is actually a surprisingly practical parenting tip. Children model their parents and they respond in kind to the environment that surrounds them. A calm and peaceful parent will induce calm and peacefulness with the child.

Arm yourself with the knowledge that if you join support groups or socialize with others, there will be times you’re going to receive unsolicited advice. If confused about all the advice you receive from others, take some time to ask yourself “what is important to me in all this?”

Sometimes babies cry for no reason at all. The only thing you can do, in this case, is to do what you know. Try changing the baby's diaper, feeding the baby, checking to see if he or she is too hot or cold. If none of those things soothes him or her, sometimes the best thing to do is try to comfort your baby.

You cannot be a super parent, no matter how hard you try. Babies do not come with instruction manuals, and you are going to make a mistake or two along the way. Making a mistake does not make you a bad parent. Your baby is learning new things everyday. Enjoy and make the very most of this precious time because it will pass much too quickly.

It is okay to ask for help but do what you think is best for the welfare of your child. Do not let others pressure you to make decisions about raising your child that you would not otherwise make.
