Leaders are more successful than others,mostly due to the talent to supervise .

Leadership theories are all very similar to each other. They all revolve around traits, qualities and skills of leaders. Some types of leaders are more successful than others, though, mostly due to the ability to manage people.

Psychology experts have been interested in leadership since the early twentieth century. Through observation, description and experiments these experts have developed several leadership systems, ranging from the born leader to the transformational leader.

The Born Leader – The born leader is just that. They are born with the traits and qualities that make a great director. In the past, these traits were thought to be more male than female so this theory has been transferred to as the “Great Man” Theory.

The Trait Leader – Very similar to the “Great Man” Theory this theory states that individuals inherit and develop certain qualities which make them good chiefs. However, the problem with this theory is why public who have these traits do not become a leader. The other problem is that this theory only allows for one leadership style based on a set of traits.

The Contingency Leader – This philosophy accounts for another leadership type, however success is not just based on the style. Other variables that affect the outcome are the situation and the quality of the subject.

The Situational Leader – The situational leader uses different styles of management to make different types of decisions.

The Made Leader – The exact opposite of the “Great Man” Theory, this philosophy believes that leaders are made, not born. According to this theory, leaders are made by their actions, thus leaders can be made through observation.

The Delegative Leader – This leader considers input and suggestion from their team, which encourages participation, teamwork, and ownership. The leader is ultimately responsible for all decisions, but the process of sharing allows for others to be just as committed to the decision-making.
