Saxophone is one of the most popular music instrument in the world. Saxophone was invented by a Belgian, Antoine Joseph (Adolphe) Sax in 1841 while he was in Brussels. Sax, an expert musician, became aware of the tonal disparity between strings and woodwinds, as well as brasses and winds. It was created to bridge the tonal gap between lower woodwind section and the low brass section. Sax combined the body of a brass instrument and the mouthpiece of a woodwind instrument. The brass was later replaced by metal. The instrument has a wide conical bore, a slightly flared bell, and a beaked mouthpiece similar to that of a clarinet. It is played with a single reed.
The saxophone is a hugely popular instrument and is a member of the woodwind family, joining the likes of flutes, piccolos, and clarinets. Sax has invented about fourteen saxophones out of which eight still exists. However, only four of them are commonly available. There are soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. Out of these, the alto saxophone is most commonly found which most people think of. Other saxophone that still exists include E-flat soprano, B-flat soprano, E-flat alto, true tone alto, B-flat tenor, E-flat baritone, B-flat Bass and contrabass.
The saxophone is a great individual instrument, but it is used in many types of music. Jazz is most famous for using saxophone, but rock, ska, pop, show tunes; smooth listening, Broadway, blues, reggae, big band, samba, and swing all use the saxophone in their respective genres. Saxophone music makes you feel good. Saxophone sounds great anytime, hip, sophisticated, relaxed, sensuous and romantic, and always creates great atmosphere no matter where it’s played.
The saxophone was originally designed to have a smooth, mellow and balanced tone. The saxophone is very popular. It is a wonderful and fun instrument. Today, saxophone music is enjoyed by people everywhere and has become part of almost every genre of music.
