In order to get known by Internet users, first thing to do is to let search engine index your pages. You can submit your website to search engine like google, yahoo, or msn.

Some people get their traffic using advertising method like PPC (Pay Per Click), PPM, or placing banner ads at well known websites. But not everyone have budget for such kind of traffic building method.

So, let’s talk about free traffic.

You can get free traffic for your website or blog through:
1. Article Marketing
You can write article about something in your area of expertise. And then you can place a link to your website. Please write something which is related to your website topic.
2. Forum Marketing
You can also participating in online forum, set your website as signature and use “eye-catching” anchor text. And please do not spam your link everywhere in the forum because it will only hurt your website reputation. Traffic from forum is not too much, but it’s better than no traffic at all.
3. Submit your website to web directories.
4. Create some content, post it on social book marking service like del.icio.us or digg.
5. Give comment on other people’s blog. You may surprise that sometimes they will visit your site, to check out all about you and your website. This is another way to create free traffic.
6. Join yahoo answer or another website where we can ask and get answers. Find some topic related to your website and give them some solution while gently mention about your website. Remember… do not spamming since yahoo answer rules do not allow any kind of spamming and promotion activity. So, you have to be careful.
7. Place your website link at your email signature. And periodically send something useful or something interesting to your friend. If they like your email, there is a chance that they will forward it to their friend. And that will be free promotion for your website.

That’s some method to get free traffic. But the more important thing is to create a really good website, not only the appearance but also the content itself. If you have a good website then people will tend to revisit your website, so you’ll save efforts for further promotion.
