What Not To Do In Marketing Campaigns

by Lynne Saarte | Marketing and Promotion > Switch Category
It is common for businesses to commit mistakes when it comes to campaign strategies. It goes without saying that no campaign strategy is fool proof. Strategies fail because there are no exact formulas to advertising strategies; otherwise, it would have been easy if you can just fill in the templates. Obviously, most success stories are developed after years of testing. Marketing collaterals, for instance, have changed from the cluttered, very informative design to more engaging print brochures. The tool remains but the delivery mechanism has changed and will change to suit current trends.

Needless to say, advertising is an essential element in any campaign. No business and I mean no business would ever survive without a good marketing strategy. Designing a good marketing strategy is not an easy task. There will always be problems and resource deficits. But the trick here is to know the common mistakes and try to minimize their impact.

Do not be part of the herd

Some businesses act like they are part of a herd. They go where most businesses go. They imitate what other businesses do. Often this mistake is committed by businesses who are mere fence sitters, spectators if you like. These businesses are risk averse. They are unwilling to explore other means to become different from their competitors. If their business is thriving with their existing customer base, they do not find it necessary to invest in marketing strategies to attract more. Well, put it this way. These types of businesses should be measured against the profit they do not earn because of their failure to attract more clients. The tip here is to aspire to be different. For instance, your print brochures should highlight your business' characteristics that is uniquely your own. Customers would be interested in you if you are not just one among the many products or services.

Do not complicate business processes

As a customer, how many times have you left because of cumbersome procedures? I have and I have done it a lot of times. I recently walked out of an appliance store because it took them a while to release a free item that goes out with the camera that I bought. I bluntly told them that I am not buying the camera anymore and walked out of the shop. I often shift to another provider if a particular company procedure for ordering would inconvenience me. There is so much competition out there today that you would not have second thoughts about leaving or getting another one. That is the beauty of it all. However, for companies, this is a pitfall they should watch out for.

Cumbersome procedures equal client loss. The trick here is to simplify. Be it in your brochure printing, procedures, etc. Always make it a point to make it easier for your customers to do business with you.
