7 To Do And Not To Do In Holiday Posters

by Janice Jenkins | Marketing and Promotion
Now, you may think that holiday poster printing is the same as your regular poster printing, but the truth is there are differences. This is because the holiday promotional environment is pretty different and usually the design philosophy and technique will require a different kind of attitude towards poster printing. So, as a guide for you, here are our 7 do’s and don’ts for poster printing over the holidays that should help you get those posters right.

1. Do use colors. It is always mandatory to print holiday posters in full color. While in other times you can be content with black and white poster printing, during the holidays it is always crucial to print in full color. This is because most of the time, you will need to project a holiday theme that is not easily done with black and white pictures. Only full color posters can project the necessary color themes and effects that will make a poster a “festive holiday poster”. So always print full color posters, you have no other choice unless you want to fail.

2. Do use special ink effects. Holiday posters will also always need some special inks. While usual poster inks will work for most poster promotions, during the holidays your inks must be extra special. Glossy inks and glitter inks are usually used in holiday posters to make them look festive. These are ideal for “twinkle” effects or magic effects that help a lot in various holiday design elements. So when possible always use special ink effects.

3. Do use glossy paper. Holiday posters also need to be printed in style. You must not use normal “rough” paper in printing posters this season because it will not do justice to your holiday design. Usually it is best to use glossy paper so that the posters have that professional sheen that everybody expects from holiday color posters.

4. Do print big. It is also good to always print big posters this season. Not only will this make the color posters more noticeable, it will also reach a lot more people than small posters can. This means a larger readership base, and a lot more chances for communicating your holiday marketing message. So print your color posters big if you can.

5. Do not use too many different fonts. Now, one tip you should remember is to not use too many font styles. It can be tempting to use lots of different and interesting fonts for your holiday posters, but this has the negative effect of making the poster design quite messy. It is better to use only one or two font styles and just vary the size of the fonts for the emphasis. Moreover, you can change the letters into “bold” or “italic” if need be for a different effect. This makes your poster's theme cleaner and more coherent.

6. Do not use web images. Also, never use web images into any kind of holiday poster design. While this maybe the easiest way for you, those images can be bad for your poster printing. Most of those kinds of images are in low resolution resulting in bad and fuzzy poster images when printed. It is best to take your own photographs or develop your own graphics so that you can set those things for high quality. Only high quality images with high resolutions will turn out great in poster printing. So always avoid those web images when you can.

7. Do not print too few. Finally, do not print too few of your color posters. Most businesses will just print enough color posters for their shops. However, proper poster promotions will always need more, so that you can distribute your posters around the area of your business and even beyond to different high traffic areas. It is also good to print a few extra holiday color posters just for emergencies. You never know when your current posters might be damaged or deteriorate because of the weather.

Those are what you should and should not do for holiday poster printing. Remember these well and you will get these poster promotions right this holiday season.
