Interior House Painting

by Michael Ferdinand | Home Improvement > Switch Category

Painting the interior of your house can be so challenging. Painting the interior of your house requires a thorough estimation, visualization and preparation. Properly preparing a room for painting allows for easy clean up and a more professional look in the end.

Before and during home painting Always provide adequate ventilation when painting inside your house or you can use a respirator or a mask. When painting the interior of your home it is important to make sure that everything is protected. From carpet to furniture to electronics, it is essential that your belongings stay clean and free of paint. Take out large furniture and make sure nothing can obstruct the preparation and painting process. Clear the walls and ceiling of decorations such as paintings and posters. Also remove nails, tacks, tape and other kinds of hangers.

Prepare the wall or ceiling properly. Wash the surface with power washer. TSP (trisodium phosphate) and water will remove grease that keeps paint from adhering. Patch holes and cracks in the surfaces you wanted to paint with premixed spackling paste. After the paste dries, sand the patched the areas. After the puttied areas have dried, sand and paint them with a primer coat. Also sand and prime all surfaces covered with slick paint like enamel. There are many different things that can be done to get a surface ready to be painted.

Paint the ceiling first. Apply the paint in short strokes towards the unpainted area and then brush back into the area you just painted for a smooth surface. Paint trim first, including edging around the ceiling, molding, and trim.

After you finished ceiling painting, you can paint the wall next. Paint around the trim first, including edging around the ceiling. Prime the surfaces, usually with primer paint. Otherwise you may have to paint the surface an extra time. Don't use too much paint on your brush or roller. Dip brushes only about one-third the length of the bristles into the paint. Paint safely. Make sure you have a secure ladder. Don't lean over too far-it's better to move the ladder than break your head. Finally, let colors unify and complement one another in your interior painting ideas.

House painting takes time, house painting costs a big chunk on your budget, but the end-result is always great. Your house is your lifetime asset.
