Causes of lung cancer

Lung cancer is the result of the basic abnormality in the body’s basic functioning. When the body fails in maintaining the checks and balances on the cell growth, it leads to disrupted system. This cancer usually hits the cell lining air passages. This is categorized in two ways, small cell and non-small cell. Malignant tumors are the basic in the growth of lung cancer, these tumors grow aggressively and spreads to other parts of the body. This spreading process in scientific terms is known as metastasis. Any type of cancer; after a certain period can be life threatening. Same is the case with lung cancer. It is one of the most difficult cancers to treat.

Coming to the causes of lung cancers, Although there are numerous reasons that can develop the growth of tumor, smoking is key to lung cancer. The health care experts statistics states, smokers have got the greater risks of getting affected by this cancer. Smoking is harzardous to almost every part of the body and also overall reduces a person’s health. Tobacco contains chemicals; when blown in air can cause life threatening diseases to smokers as well as non smokers. Smoking and lung cancer share a cause-and-effect relationship. Apart from smoking; air pollution from vehicles, factories and manufacturing plants are also the other sources that fall under main category. Prolonged exposure to air pollutants and passive smoking also share a major role in developing lung cancer.

For workers, working in factories and manufacturing plants, increased contact with chemicals and harzardous gases is general. Although they take safety measures by wearing masks, but some amount of particles get inhaled. Harmful chemicals Iike asbestos, arcenic, chromium, nickel, aromatic hydrocarbons, sulphur monoxide, radon gas etc can be the major reasons to trigger lung cancer cells.

Individual genetic susceptibility can also be the major causation of lung cancer. There is no bar to occurrence of lung cancer, anyone can be the victim, the list increases from smokers to non-smokers. This was all about the risks involved due to foreign materials. The list of causes is not complete without internal lung related disorders. Presence of various lungs associated diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases have also got the increased risk of developing lung cancer.

Survivors have got the major risk of getting triggered again than the average person. As far as genetic risks are concerned, in many families; smokers have got the risk of developing cancer due to inherited faulty genes. A very rare amount of people suffer from lung cancer before the age of 40. The risk of getting triggered with lung cancer increases with age. Researchers believe that in some cases, when body comes in contact with various cancer causing agents, their immune system instead of neutralizing those makes them aggressive within the body. Such people with sensitive immune system have got greater risks of getting triggered by lung cancer. Science has proved its efficiency by introducing various medications, treatments and therapies. If lung cancer is diagnosed at initial stages, there are increased possibilities of getting cured. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy has also proved its best in treating cancer and successfully curing them.
