by Hardy Chen | Gadget and Gizmos > Switch Category

There's thousands application registered at Android Market, but not every of it worth your time to try. Here we're trying to list 12 best free android applications that may make your life easier.
Please note that all the applications listed below are all tested and reviewed based on personal experience after using it.

1. Opera Mobile
Opera Mobile is one of the best android browser. The user interface is pretty clean and the loading time is also fast. You can expect smooth pinch and zoom on any page since this application itself do not need the best hardware to perform well among the best.

2. Google Translate
English is universal language, but sometimes we need to dig into non-english webpage which is apparently make life more complicated. Thanks to google, although the tool itself is far from perfect in terms of translation quality, it's still the best compared to any other service out there.

3. Lookout Antivirus
One of the best antivirus in Android Market. It doesn't eat up your phone resources and it offers more than just security feature. This application also have backup feature of your calls and contacts, find device via GPS in case you accidentally lost it, and lock phone function to lock your phone from remote location.

4. Pulse News Reader
This is one of our favourite news reader. The UI is nice and we can grab a lot of news from various sources all in one place so you don't have to open multiple tabs on your browser to read news from multiple sources. You can also customize the news you want to grab, and dismiss the one you don't need.

5. QuickPic
QuickPic is an image viewer application which is very light and do not consume much of your hardware resources. The UI is simple but powerful. Designed for people who do not need any 'extraordinary' special effect just to view a static image.

6. Trainchinese
Do you intend to learn chinese language? If so, this application is very good to assist your language learning process. It contains decent number of chinese words in its dictionary and it also has a tool to assist you on writing chinese kanji. And the best part of it, it's free considering so much similar application placing high price tag on it.

7. WhatsApp
It's a BBM-like application, but maybe we can say it's better than the one offered by RIM. The only downside is sometimes the application seems to be a little bit lag. And you don't have to have PIN or anything else as long as you have phone number.

8. MoonReader
Moon Reader is a ebook reader application. Mostly it supports epub format and any other known ebook format. The UI is pretty nice and like any other application, you can set font type, and font size, especially in a device which have small display.
The reason we put it among the best free application in here is because this application seems to be more stable than any other similar application out there.

9. FxCamera
Are you disappointed with the feature offered by your default camera phone?
Do you want more options to 'hack' the picture rather than just a plain photo? Then FxCamera suits your needs. This application has a plenty of photo effect which is nice and fun to use for some photo experiment.

10. MoboPlayer
MoboPlayer is an all in one video player. You can play almost all video format you can think about. Remember that we say 'almost', it doesn't mean it support all the video format available, but it's more than enough for us who rarely video format other than avi, mkv, wmv, etc. You don't have to convert your video again in order to play it on your phone, just copy and the play. As simple as that.

11. File Expert
It's a file browser. It has clean UI and very light that force us pick it as winner rather the 'also good' - ES File Explorer. The only thing that this application lack is its search function, which is only allow you to use regex to search (what the heck is regex anyway) for specific file with specific extension. But still, we love it more than ESFE. Yay !

12. Evernote
I was thinking why the heck Google didn't think to include one simple application to take care of my notes. But it's ok now since I found a great application to take care of my bulky notes. Evernote is considered the best because this application is not only available in Android but also in iPhone, Pad, Pod, and any other i-Thing as well as a standalone Windows Applications.
Everytime I write something into it, the application will try to sync the notes so it will also appear on any other Evernote application that run from any other device I have in which also have this application installed. Simple but useful.
