Grocery Shopping: Save money at the Groceries

by Rud Thomas
Category : Finance

We’re all looking for ways to save a little money - to cut back. But that doesn't mean you have to scrimp, especially when you do the weekly shopping. However you must make a few changes in the manner you shop for groceries. We have discovered some excellent ways to help you save money on your next trip to the grocery store. If you are willing to do so, just follow these shopping tips and you'll be well on your way to saving.

Make a list and stick to it. If you're browsing up one supermarket aisle and down another, you'll throw items in the cart on impulse. Before you go to the supermarket, make a list of everything you need to buy. This really helps cut down on impulse buying. Now when you are shopping, tell yourself: No impulse buying. No extra spending! You can then concentrate on getting just what's on the list.

Buying in bulk can save money, but only buy as much as you'll actually eat. If you don't think the family will eat 12 cases of boiled meat, it's probably not a good idea to buy in bulk. Buying in bulk is better if the item can be frozen, like meat. This way you won't have to worry about the waste, just freeze it for later. These are always on sale somewhere so load up on your favorites and stash them away for the months ahead.

Go with the house brands. These products are often made by the companies that make the name brand items, just without the brand name. Often times, one factory will produce the same product for more than one company. The only difference is the label and the price. On some products, you can save 20% (more when items are on sale) just on these two weekly necessities alone.

Try another store. The grocery store might not always have the best deals. Check out drug stores for deals on milk, bread, soda, snacks, and paper products.

Using coupons every week can save you 10-15% on your annual food bill. You can also join the rewards program or members club for any area grocery stores. It's usually free, and you'll have access to discounts every day.

If you are only able to take one idea from this article, you will save money every month. Take the time to reflect on your style of shopping. You might find that you spend a little too many on unnecessary items.
