People hear about the stock and stock market every day. We often hear about the stock market reaching new highs and lows every now and then. But what is stock? What is stock market? How does the stock market work? And why people want to do stock market investments?
Stocks are shares of ownership in a company or business which gets on sale in the stock market. A stock symbolizes ownership of a company. If you are interested in the stock market, you should first take the time to learn what ever you can about the types of stocks available and what these stocks can do for your investment. As a newcomer to the stock market, you will hear many investors talking about common stocks. This type of stock can be purchase by anyone and it basically refers to having ownership in the company you are investing in. another type of stock is preferred stock. The differences is about the dividend that offered on the stock, if the company declares bankruptcy, and the assets are liquidated, those that hold preferred stock will be paid back before those that hold common stock.
Stock market is a place where the trading of company stocks happen. Stock market investments allow companies and private individuals to get a share of ownership in large corporations. There are two ways to buy stocks: brokerage service and online exchanges (e.g. banks).
Today, many people investing in stock. The reason is that the returns from stock market investment are consistently much higher than from fixed income deposits. However, the stock market is not for every body. The stock market is meant for people who are know the risk and willing to take risk.
