Being the most creative sales manager in your division usually means you will have the best ideas to motivate and inspire your team to success. Boosting creativity is an ability every one has. Yes even you. Highly motivated and effectively managed sales force can do wonders for the business growth, profitability and make all the difference between success and failure. The fallacy over the years has been that only people in the arts and media are creative.
Motivation, it's a simple word and a simple concept but it's tricky to implement. Ask any sales manager what motivation is and there is a high likelihood that they would come up with a textbook definition. Unfortunately managing people is all about working with human beings with all their wonderful differences.
To motivate your team, you must be able to open up communication lines and ensure that there is a smooth exchange of ideas and information. Don't always assume that you know what your team wants. Give them a reason to achieve what your company expects from them. Provide the equipment, materials, training and support they need. Bring balance to your judgments as a manager. Avoid playing favorites. And enough talking. Peoples place a high premium who can actually put into action whatever it is they talk about.
Managing a sales team isn't an easy task. You are not just responsible for yourself and your own production any more. Finally, the company, sales manager and the sales representatives has to plan, organize and control all their activities well to meet the organizational objectives.
