VPS Web Hosting

by Amauri Lewis | Computer and Internet > Switch Category
Virtual Private server (VPS) is a single physical server that is running special software that divides it into several virtual servers. Each server acts as if it is a completely self-contained machine, with no bearing on any of the other virtual servers running on that same system. A benefit of using a Virtual Private Server is that each virtual server runs independently of the others. Each user runs their own operating system off of their individual virtual server and can also run and install programs off of the network.

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is basically a virtual dedicated server. It exists on a machine that uses virtualization software to run multiple virtual machines, each of which has its own independent resources (disk space, memory, etc.) and each of which is totally independent of other virtual machines on that server.

One of the biggest advantages of a VPS is you get root level administrator access to your server. Just like a dedicated server, you can have access to all configuration files within your account which means a greater ability for you to install and run custom software should you choose to. For those webmasters whom desire more control over their website hosting environment, virtual private server, or VPS web hosting is a viable alternative.

VPS has a great economic advantage over dedicated servers if you are running a small number of websites and your websites are not resource intensive. If you have any problems with the Operating System in VPS, you simply reload it (or you can even install another copy of the OS, depending on the system you are using).

A VPS is also more secure than shared hosting. On a shared server, all the websites are running within the same operating system. If the server gets hacked, all the sites will be vulnerable. One VPS can crash without affecting any of the other virtual machines running on that server.

VPS plans are generally cheaper than dedicated hosting plans, because one physical server can host mutliples VPS servers. This makes them cheaper. Virtual Private Server hosting is the perfect solution for customers who want the control and flexibility of dedicated hosting at a cost similar to shared hosting. With this technology that enables webmasters to enjoy the best of both worlds. Virtual Private Servers allow businesses to provide a high-end service to their customers and employees at a low-end price.
